Border Crossing Documents Accepted by the Romanian State

The following state border crossing documents are accepted by Romania, provided they certify the identity and citizenship or statelessness of the holder:

  1. a) passports, travel documents, seaman's cards or other similar documents issued, to the standards required by international practice, by the states, territories or international entities recognized by Romania;
  2. b) identity card or other similar documents, on a reciprocal or unilateral basis, for the citizens belonging to the states established by a decision of the Government of Romania - (Switzerland);
  3. c) refugee travel documents issued under the 1951 Geneva Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and travel documents issued to aliens who have been granted conditional humanitarian protection;
  4. d) travel documents of stateless persons issued by the states in which they have their domicile.

Foreigners included in a state border crossing document belonging to another person may enter or leave Romania only with their holder.

Foreigners can enter and leave Romania and on the basis of a collective passport, only in group, provided that each member of the group has an individual document attesting the identity and where the photograph of the holder is applied and the group leader is in possession of an individual document for crossing the state border.
