On June 3, 2025, at the headquarters of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Border Police, Bucharest, the 3rd quadrilateral meeting at the management level of the border authorities signatory to the Joint Arrangement establishing the support mission at the Bulgarian-Turkish border took place. Regional cooperation arrangement, signed between the border authorities of the four states, aims to strengthen control at the external border of the European Union and strengthen the common operational capacity to prevent and combat illegal migration and cross-border crime.
In this context, the Inspector General of the Romanian Border Police, Police Principal Quaestor Cornel Laurian STOICA received, at the institution's headquarters, the delegations led by Mr. Berthold HUBBEGGER, Head of the Operational Management Department for Borders and Foreigners within the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Austria, Mr. Chief Commissioner Radoslav KULEKOV, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of the Border Police of Bulgaria, Mr. Lieutenant Colonel Gabor HAJNAL, Deputy Head of the Border Police Department of Hungary. Also, at the invitation of the Romanian side, with the agreement of the signatory states, representatives of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) also participated in the activity.
Within this framework, discussions were held on the challenges facing illegal migration, cooperation in the Schengen context, and measures to secure the EU's external border.
At the same time, the activity carried out by the "SOLIDARITY" contingent during the first two rotations was evaluated. The mission began on 03.02.2025, currently, the RBP is participating, within the third rotation, with 20 Romanian border police officers deployed in Bulgaria, in the area of responsibility of the Elhovo Regional Border Police Directorate.
Romanian police officers act within joint patrol teams, in cooperation with representatives of the host state, contributing through their presence and expertise to the conduct of border surveillance and operational support activities in the field.
Romania's participation in this operation reflects Romania's solidarity and firm commitment to ensuring increased security at the external borders of the European Union, as well as to strengthened regional cooperation by jointly managing the challenges generated by illegal migration.
