On 30.06.2026, in the towns of Drobeta Turnu Severin (Romania) and Kladovo (Republic of Serbia), a working meeting took place between the leadership of the Romanian Border Police and their counterpart structure from the Republic of Serbia. The meeting was attended by the Inspector General of the Romanian Border Police, Police principal Quaestor Cornel Laurian STOICA, and the Director of the Border Police Directorate within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Police General Dragiša SIMIĆ.
The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and to review the main operational aspects concerning the management of the shared border, as well as to identify measures for improving cooperation between the two authorities.
During the discussions, the heads of the delegations analysed the operational situation along the Romanian-Serbian border, with a focus on developments in illegal migration and cross-border crime. The measures implemented to prevent and combat these phenomena were also evaluated, including the reinforcement of surveillance systems, the augmentation of personnel, and the use of specialised technical equipment.
With a view to increasing the efficiency of joint activities, the two parties agreed to intensify the operational exchange of data and information, both through the Iron Gates I Joint Contact Point and through direct contacts between central and territorial structures, so that operational situations can be handled promptly and in a coordinated manner.
Also on the meeting's agenda were jointly implemented projects funded through non-reimbursable European grants, with the results achieved and the benefits of collaboration highlighted — particularly regarding the development of institutional capacities and the exchange of best practices.
The Romanian delegation also presented the operational and professional training capabilities of the Romanian Border Police, including the facilities of the Border Police Personnel Training School in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, where joint training programmes are organised with the participation of border police officers from both states. On this occasion, the first simulator used in the training units of the Romanian Border Police was also presented — designed to train personnel by recreating, in a controlled environment, the specific activities carried out at a border crossing point.
At the close of the programme, participants attended a demonstration exercise conducted on the Danube River, during which the intervention methods and response capacity of the border structures in managing various operational situations were showcased.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the heads of the two authorities reaffirmed their commitment to developing bilateral cooperation and continuing institutional dialogue, underlining the importance of maintaining effective operational cooperation in the prevention and combating of cross-border crime, as well as in ensuring efficient management of the shared border.
The meeting is part of the cooperation programme conducted by the border authorities of Romania and the Republic of Serbia, aimed at strengthening institutional relations and developing common mechanisms of action in the field of integrated border management.
