Working meeting of the managements of GIBP, GIRP and GII with partners from Hungary, in the context of the full application of the Schengen acquis by Romania

The Inspector General of the Romanian Border Police, Police Quaestor Cornel-Laurian Stoica, led an official delegation of specialists from the Ministry of Internal Affairs with authority to coordinate and manage border surveillance and control activities, as well as to prevent and fight crime cross-border, who had, on Tuesday, 19.03.2024, in Budapest, a working meeting with the Deputy Inspector General of the Hungarian Police, Major General of Police Dr. Janos Zoltan Kuczik.

Also, the Romanian delegation included Police Principal Quaestor Eduard Mirițescu, Deputy Inspector General of the Romanian Police, and Police Quaestor Valentin Niculescu, director of the Migration Department of the General Inspectorate for Immigration.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and clarify some aspects related to cross-border cooperation in the context of the full application of the Schengen acquis by Romania.

Thus, during the discussions, the working methods of the border authorities from the two states were analyzed in the context of Romania's future integration by land in the Schengen area.

Also, the control at the common border during the transition period, until the lifting of the control at the land border between Romania and Hungary, was discussed.

This working meeting represented an opportunity to strengthen cooperative relations between the Romanian and Hungarian authorities, with the aim of identifying the best solutions in the new context of integration in the Schengen area.
