Today, 01.03.2022, at the headquarters of the General Inspectorate of Border Police, a meeting took place between the leadership of the Romanian Border Police and a delegation of representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the main international body representing refugee rights.
The UNHCR delegation, led by the Deputy Director for Europe, Anne Marie Deutschlander, was received by the Inspector General of the RBP, the Chief Commissioner of Police Ivaşcu Stefan Victor and the heads of the operational structures specialized in surveillance and control of the state border, respectively prevention and combating cross-border crime.
Today's meeting aimed to identify effective solutions for managing events at the northern border, especially in the event of a massive influx of people arriving from the conflict zone, so that they can be supported in carrying out the procedures for entering the country.
The Inspector General of the RBP presented to the high official the measures ordered so far at the border with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, both at the border crossing points and at the land and river border. The flow of people and the processing capacity through the open border points were also analyzed, as well as statistical data on the situation of people arriving in our country. During the meeting, the manner in which the checks at the entrance to the country are carried out was presented, as well as the access to the asylum procedure, respectively the asylum requests registered at the Border Police structures.
At the same time, the UNHCR delegation appreciated the rapid and appropriate reaction of the Romanian authorities regarding people arriving in Romania from the conflict zone and expressed its readiness to support the Romanian authorities with funds and material goods so that vulnerable people can receive assistance and protection.
