In the period 21-23.09.2010, at the invitation of the general inspector of Romanian Border Police - police principal quaestor Ioan Buda, a delegation led by the head of the Finnish Border Guard - Lt. Gen. Jaakko Kaukanen visited our country on cross-border police cooperation matters.
Finnish Border Guard delegation made up of three representatives met in Constanta, the General Inspector of R.B.P., police principal quaestor Ioan Buda, and officers within the Romanian Border Police. Within this meeting an experience exchange in the field of border check and surveillance took place.
On 22.09.2010, the Finnish delegation participated in the ceremony of baptism and handing over of the "Stefan cel Mare" OPV flag and the flags of the new patrolling and intervention vessels MAI 2110 and MAI 2111, which will enter the endowment of Romanian Border Police.
The Romanian border policemen presented the Finnish colleagues the Complex Integrated System of Observation, Surveillance and Control of Traffic at the Black Sea (SCOMAR).
At the same time within this visit, Romanian Border Police representatives presented the structure, competences and duties of Romanian Border Police and the results registered in the field of fighting cross-border crime, criminal phenomenon tendencies, as well as the activities performed for attaining the objectives undertaken by Romania for Schengen area accession.
Common interest issues on the cooperation between the two agencies and the possibilities to develop the existent bilateral cooperation were discussed and analysed, Finland having a large experience in fighting cross-border crime, as it manages the longest E.U. external border with Romania managing the second longest E.U. external border.
This activity enters the program run by the Romanian Border Police for the enhancement of inter-agency cooperation relations in the cross-border field, aiming to ensure the security of the E.U. external borders.
