Two Romanian Border Police offshore patrol vessels will participate in the Joint Operation POSEIDON 2011

The Romanian Border Police will participate in the Joint Operation "E.P.N. POSEIDON Sea 2011" - organized by the European Agency FRONTEX - with two offshore patrol vessels - C.P.B. Shaldag model - and the crew on board.
Also, two liaison officers will be deployed in the International Coordination Center (I.C.C.) from Piraeus, within the same joint operation.

During the 1st of July - 31st of August 2011, at the maritime border between Greece and Turkey, a new phase of the Joint Operation "POSEIDON 2011" organized at the external maritime borders of E.U. under FRONTEX aegis, will develop within the European Patrol Network (E.P.N.) project. According to the engagements assumed by Romania as a Member State, the Romanian Border Police will also take part in this activity.

Thus, within this operation, the Romanian Border Police will participate with two offshore patrol vessels (P157 / CPV type) and the crew on board (15 border policemen for each vessel), during 01.07 - 31.07.2011 and 01.08 - 31.08.2011, following to carry out individual missions of patrol, investigation, search and rescue together with the other participating E.U. Member States.

Also, within the same joint operation, the Border Police will deploy two liaison officers within I.C.C. from Piraeus, who will permanently maintain the connection between the maritime vessels seconded by R.B.P. on the Greek territory and the Operational Coordination Center of G.I.B.P., as well as between the maritime vessel and the representatives of Maritime Operations Sector within FRONTEX Agency.

It is intended to undertake common measures in the field of countering migration phenomenon at the maritime borders of the community area, the increase of data and information exchange efficiency between the law enforcement authorities from these countries, as well as an efficient experience exchange between the European border policemen.

The main objective of the Joint Operation "POSEIDON 2011" is to counteract the illegal migration phenomenon at the E.U. external border.

The operation will be totally financed by FRONTEX Agency.

The activity is a continuation of the operations organized by FRONTEX Agency for countering illegal migration, within which the Romanian Border Police had a significant input, both regarding the technical means and the number, the profile and the professionalism of the deployed experts, the appreciations were coming from the Hellenic authorities and FRONTEX Agency.
