The border policemen from Timis detected 10 Turkish and
Iraqi citizens, hidden in a trailer, who intended to exit illegally
from Romania to reach countries from Western Europe - Germany, the
Netherlands, and Finland.
Four Greek citizens who intended to support the group in the
attempt to illegally exit the country are investigated for illegal
trafficking with migrants.
On 05.05.09, around 15.00 o’clock, at Stamora Moravita B.C.P., Timis county, the Greek citizens Alfes K., aged 42, and Symela S., aged 26, presented themselves with the intention to exit the country with a Ford trailer, registered in Germany.
Following an operational-information action, the border policemen decided to carry out a thorough check on the transportation means. Thus, inside the trailer, in a special arranged place, under the bed, 10 persons who were circumventing the border check were discovered.
From the checks it was established that the group was made up of eight Turkish citizens and two Iraqi citizens, all men, with ages comprised between 18-35 who entered Romania legally based on their national passports and who were trying to cross the border illegally.
Extending the investigations, in the area there was detected a vehicle, Toyota Yaris, with two Greek citizens, Dimokritos A. and Odysseas K., both aged 35, who were connected to the trailer occupants playing the role of "lead car".
Within the first investigations, the migrants stated that they chose this method because they did not hold a visa for Schengen area and intended to travel to different states from the Western Europe - Germany, The Netherlands, Finland to find a work place.
The Turkish and Iraqi citizens were to pay the traffickers for the support granted to them amounts comprised between 5000 and 8000 Euro.
The border policemen have drawn up for the migrants the preparatory documents for instituting the criminal proceedings against them for the attempt to illegally cross the border and association for the purpose of committing crimes, and the four Greek citizens are investigated for trafficking with migrants and association for the purpose of committing crimes.
The investigations are continued by the border policemen for the purpose of identification of the persons involved in the organization and facilitation of the group, as well as for establishing the entire criminal activity following to undertake, at the end of the case, the appropriate legal measures.
