Following the invitation of the General Inspector of Romanian Border Police, police general quaestor Ioan Buda, a delegation of the German Federal Police Presidium, led by Mr. Jürgen Schubert, vicepresident of the institution, made an official visit at the Romanian Border Police, in the period 29-30.07.2014.
On this occasion, the leaders of the two delegations analysed the stage and perspective of the Romanian-German cooperation in the competency field of Romanian Border Police and German Federal Police, the relevant operational results obtained following the cooperation through the Contact Points, as well as the activities carried out and results achieved in countering cross-border crime and tendencies of the criminal phenomenon.
Romanian Border Police presented the measures undertaken for countering illegal migration, both in the context of Schengen area accession and in countering the migration flows from Northen Africa and Middle East – through the participation of Romanian border policemen in Frontex missions and detection of illegal migration groups on the Black Sea – from the perspective of the potential risks at the EU external borders assured by Romania.
Romanian Border Police was appreciated as a competent and credible partner in fighting cross-border crime and it enjoys the respect and appreciation of the similar structures from the EU MS and not only.
Furthermore, RBP representatives became familiar with Germany’s experience after the Schengen area accession, the current problems at the external borders of the Community area were approached, as well as the identification of new cooperation methods between the border authorities of the two states.
This visit is part of the programme undertaken by Romanian Border Police for the purpose of enhancing the international inter-agency cooperation relations aimed at strengthening the EU external borders security.
