The Italian authorities extended their gratitude to the Romanian authorities for their competence, implication and the professionalism they have demonstrated in order to solve a trafficking in persons case, that was resolved with the detention of the crime group coordinator by the border policemen from Turnu Border Crossing Point, Arad County.
Thus, within the press conference organized at the Chestura in Rome with the occasion of annihilation of a trafficking in persons group, the Chief of the Mobile Brigade in Rome appreciated the collaboration of the Romanian and Italian authorities, mentioning the fact that "the entire investigation was realized together with the Romanian colleagues, with the support of the Romanian Police Cooperation Center and the final result was possible due to the professionalism of the Romanian Border Police which arrested the coordinator of the criminal group".
At the same time, the Chief of the Italian Police, Prefect Antonio Manganelli, the Quaestor of Rome, Giuseppe Caruso, as well as the Romanian Ambassador in Italy, His Excellency Razvan Rusu sent, throught the Romanian internal affairs attaché in Italy, "thanks and appreciations for the competence, dedication, implication and the professionalism of the Romanian authorities to finalize this operation".
We recall that on 03.02.2009, the border policemen discovered and detained the Romanian citizen Voetsi Gigi, aged 26, domiciled in Dolj County, on whose name the Italian authorities issued a European arrest warrant for trafficking in persons.
The person involved presented himself to exit the country around 12.00 p.m., at Turnu B.C.P. / Arad County, traveling as a passenger in a vehicle.
With the occasion of the specific control, the border policemen detected that on the name of Gigi Voetsi existed a European arrest warrant, issued by the Court of Rome on 08.01.2009, the man was wanted by the Italian authorities for encouraging and exploitation of the prostitution, person sequestration and keeping in slavery condition, crimes committed against a co-national.
As a result of this fact, the measure to interrupt the travel of the person involved was taken; he was handed over to a team within Arad County Police Inspectorate in order to take the necessary legal measures.
