The chief of the Swiss Border Guard, visiting the Romanian Border Police

During 02-05.09.2013, a delegation of the Border Guard of Switzerland, led by the head of the institution, Brigadier General Jurg Noth carried out a visit to the Romanian Border Police in order to develop the bilateral contacts between the border police structures from both states.

On the occasion of this visit, the general inspector of the Border Police, police chief quaestor Ioan Buda, presented the structure, the competences and the tasks of the Romanian Border Police to the Swiss representatives, as well as the activities carried out for the accomplishment of the assumed objectives by the Border Police in order to access the Schengen Area.

The delegation visited, at the headquarters of GIBP, the Command and Control Center of the Romanian Border Police which has as main task the collection and procession of information from the surveilance and control systems installed on the border, with the aim to optimise the response time and the management of resources at a unitary level.

At the same time, the Swiss delegation went to Constanta and Tulcea to visit the Integrated Complex System for Observance, Surveillance and Control of the Traffic at the Back Sea (SCOMAR).

Here, the activities carried out by the border police from the responsibility area of the Coast Guard, the endowments of the Border Police in the field of naval mobility, as well as the actions undertaken to secure the external borders of Schengen and EU, especially the blue border were presented.

Also, the members of the Swiss delegation participated in a mission for air and naval surveillance on the Danube, at the Romanian - Ukrainian border.

On the occasion of the visit in Romania, the Swiss delegation appreciated the Romanian Border Police as being a competent and credible partner in the fight against cross-border crime and an institution which is respected and appreciated by the similar structures from the EU member states.

This visit is enlisted in the programme developed by the Romanian Border Police aimed to enhance the international cooperation relations between the institutions in the border field, in order to ensure the security of the external borders of the European Union.
