The border policemen are preparing for the inflow of travelers in the border crossing points, generated by the upcoming winter holidays.
The most transited borders will be the ones at the border with Hungary and Republic of Moldova, reason for which at the level of the Romanian Border Police were disposed a series of measures meant to ease the traffic and to reduce the waiting time.
In December 2010, 2.6 million person crossings through the border points were recorded.

The upcoming winter holidays brings back in the country many of the Romanian citizens established abroad to spend these days together with their family and relatives, but also foreign citizens wanting to spend their holiday in Romania. Also, many Romanian citizens planned to spend these days abroad.

CAs a result of this fact, in December, in the border crossing points, an increase of the traffic of persons and means of transportation was recorded, so in order to avoid overcrowding, the Romanian Border Police undertook the necessary measures for the transit to be carried out normally.

Precisely, in order to realize an efficient and fluent border control, the management of the Romanian Border Police undertook the following measures:

supplementing of the personnel checking the documents, respectively the increase of check lanes in the border points, on the entry or exit way in/from the country, if necessary; constituting a personnel back-up, both at the HQ of the General Inspectorate of Border Police and within the territorial structures, made out of specialized officers who will be prepared to act if necessary; ensuring an increased surveillance of the state border, through the implementation of legal measures in order to prevent and counter cross-border crime; maintaining all the communication and IT means in efficiency state and preparing the personnel in order to assure rapid intervention in the competence area for resolving the special situations; enhancing the co-working and collaboration relations with the other structures of the Ministry of Administration and Interior, with the border authorities of the neighbouring states, as well as with the local public administration.

Recommendations

In order to avoid overcrowding, Romanian Border Police recommends the traffic participants to transit all the border points existing at the border, in order to prevent overloading just a few of them, due to the increased number of travelers in a very short time.

We remind all the participants in the cross-border traffic that if they are dissatisfied with the way in which the border check was realized, they can call the telephone number 021.9590, where the notices are taken over by the border policemen who will act accordingly, within the law, on a case-by-case basis.

Statistics

In 2010, in December, approximately 2,600,000 persons crossed the border, out of which more than 2,300,000 citizens of the European Union (1,400,000 on the entry way in the country and 1,200,000 on the exit way), the most transited were the border crossing points in the west of the country.
