Ten illegal migrants and two facilitators were detected at the Romanian-Hungarian border

Romanian Border Police officers within Satu Mare Border Police Territorial Service apprehended ten illegal migrants at two Romanian citizens who guided the migrants towards the border. The migrants are citizens of Morocco intending to reach several Western European countries, hoping for a job.

On 07.01.2012, based on data and information, Border Police officers within Countering Illegal Migration and Cross-border Criminality Bureau - Satu Mare Border Police Territorial Service initiated a specific action in the filed of countering illegal migration within the area of responsibility.

On 08.01.2012, at about 02.30 hours, in Oar, at about 500 meters from the border line, Border Police officers detected a group of ten people walking towards the neighboring state territory. Border Police officers apprehended them and led the people to the premises of Satu Mare Border Police Territorial Service, for further investigations.

At the same time, another team of Border Police officers within Satu Mare Border Police Territorial Service identified in traffic two vehicles out of which, in Decebal, got out ten people walking towards Romanian-Hungarian border. The drivers of the two vehicles were led also to the premises of Satu Mare Border Police Territorial Service, for investigations.

Out of the preliminary investigations resulted the fact the drivers are Matei R, 32 years old from Finteusu Mic, Maramures County and Gelu Mandache K., 27 years old from Baia Mare.

The ten migrants are from Morocco with ages from 22 to 28 years old. Some of them were apprehended before, during 2011, by the Romanian Border Police officers in their attempt of illegally cross the green border.

The results of the investigation were that the apprehended people - ten Morocco - intended to illegally exit Romania in order to reach Schengen area. One of the drivers, Matei R., stated that, while being near by Baia Mare Train Station, a foreign person approach him for helping him together with nine more to reach Oradea. This is when he asked Gelu K. to help him.

For the transportation service the price was established at 200 Euros. On their way to Oradea, after passing Satu Mare, the passengers asked the drivers to stop, exit the car and went towards the border, up to the point they were stopped by Border Police officers.

Now, the drivers are incriminated for trafficking illegal migrants and the ten migrants for attempt of illegal border crossing.
