On 2 April 2026, the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Border Police hosted a high-level working meeting with representatives in Romania of the United Nations Children's Fund, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration, in the context of strengthening institutional cooperation in the field of migration management and the implementation, at national level, of the Pact on Migration and Asylum.
The delegation of the General Inspectorate of Border Police was led by Chief Police Quaestor Cornel Stoica, general inspector, who stressed the importance of a coordinated and sustainable approach in managing the challenges posed by the migration phenomenon, in close cooperation with international partners.
The meeting was attended by Anna Riatti, UNICEF representative in Romania, Pablo Zapata, UNHCR representative in Romania, Mircea Mocanu and the head of the IOM Office in Romania.
The agenda of the discussions focused on topics of common interest, such as the strengthening of the mechanisms for identifying and referring persons in need of international protection, the protection of vulnerable groups, with a focus on unaccompanied minors, as well as provision of training programs dedicated to the staff of the Romanian Border Police.
The representatives of the participating organizations reaffirmed their commitment to actively and constantly support the institutional efforts of the Romanian Border Police, through specialized expertise and training initiatives adapted to the current operational requirements.
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening inter-institutional dialogue and cooperation, with a view to ensuring an appropriate balance between strengthening security at the external borders and full respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals.
