Border police officers within Nădlac II Border Crossing Point have discovered, in a ware truck, approximately 440,000 unmarked cigarette packages that were to be illegally introduced into the country.
On 24 September 2019, around 6:00 pm, at Nădlac II - Csanadpalota Border Crossing Point, the Romanian citizen P.I., aged 30 years, domiciled in Arad county, presented himself to enter the country, driving a road assembly consisting of DAF tractor head and KRONE brand semi-trailer, both being registered in Romania. The driver was carrying 26 pallets with packages for auto devices. Based on the risk profile, the border police officers proceeded to a thorough control of the vehicle. Thus, in the semi-trailer of the road assembly were discovered 22 pallets, hidden behind those containing auto devices, using the "lid" method, containing about 440,000 unmarked cigarette packages.
The estimated quantity of cigarettes, amounting to about 5,000,000 lei, was raised for confiscation, and in this case investigations are carried out under the coordination of a prosecutor within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Court Arad, in the aspect of committing the smuggling offense. At the same time, a restraining order for 24 hours was issued against the driver.
Upon the completion of the investigations, the legal measures will be undertaken.
