The General Inspector of Romanian Border Police, police chief quaestor Ioan Buda, together with the deputy General Inspector, police chief commissioner Liviu Galos, paid an official visit to Berlin and Potsdam (Federal Republic of Germany) upon the invitation of the president of the German Federal Police dr. Dieter Romann, in the period 08 - 09.10.2013.
On this occasion, the delegations approached topics such as the identification of new possibilities for developing the cooperation between the two law enforcement agencies and the analysis of aspects on cooperation and rapid exchange of information between the border police structures of EU Member States in the field of countering illegal migration.
Romanian representatives discussed with the German officials about the Romanian - German cooperation on border issues for the next period, as well.
Within the visit to Potsdam, at the headqurters of the Federal Police Presidium, the contact institution for bilateral matters in border issues, aspects on countering illegal migration and improvement of international legislation on asylum and refugees were also approached.
The representatives of the German Federal Police appreciated the good cooperation with the Romanian Border Police through the common contact centres and points and Romania’s participation in missions coordinated by Frontex.
The participation of Romanian Border Police management in this meeting represents an enhancement of the international interagency cooperation relations in the border field, aimed at ensuring the EU external borders security.
Background information:
The German Federal Police is the police structure fulfilling border police specific duties throughout the entire territory of the Federal Republic of Germany and is directly subordinated to the Federal Ministry of Interior. These duties of the Federal Police are clearly delimited from those of the Landpolizei organised and subordinated to the Ministries of Interior, set up at the level of each Land on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The new structure of the German Federal Police was established on the 01st of March 2008, following a reorganization process, and the superior federal authority is the Federal Police Presidium in Potsdam.
The president of the German Federal Police is Mr. Dr. Dieter Romann, appointed as the head of the Federal Police Presidium in 2012, by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Hans Peter Friedrich.
