Massive actions of Romanian Border Police officers in order to counter cigarettes smuggling

In the last 24 hours, Romanian Border Police officers asset approximately 22,000 packages of cigarettes, in one of the situations being necessary to use weapons and ammunition in order to apprehend the smugglers.
Four people were drawn prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of smuggling and possessing outside the fiscal warehouse excisable goods.
The cigarettes, valuing about 126,000 lei were asset.

Based on data and information, gathered in cooperation with Information and Internal Protection General Directorate, regarding the smuggling activities carried out in the competency area of Halmeu Border Police Sector, Border Police officers within Satu Mare County Border Police Inspectorate took the necessary specific surveillance an control measures of the area for detecting and apprehending the people involved in smuggling.
Thus, on 10th of May 2011, Border Police officers detected, near the Hungarian border, several people carrying over the border big packages in order to load a tractor trailer situated on Romania’s territory.
In compliance with the law, Border Police officers warned orally the aforementioned people and for not obeying and trying to run away on Hungarian territory, the law enforcements used their weapons, shooting in vertical plan.
Even at this point, the smugglers did not stop, hiding on neighboring territory. Only one of them was apprehended and identified as J. Adrian, Romanian citizen, male, 21 years old.
In the tractor trailer were found 15,000 Jin Ling cigarettes packages, stamped by Ukrainian duty free shops, valuing approximately 63,.000 lei. The whole amount of cigarettes and the mean of transportation were asset.
The investigation is in process, being informed about the event also the Ukrainian authorities, in order to identify all the people involved and gathering complete information on the criminal activity.

Yesterday, Romanian Border Police officers within Giurgiu County Border Police Inspectorate detected 5,490 cigarettes packages with no stamp valuing about 54,900 lei. The cigarettes were undeclared and hidden in a passengers’ bus (a double wall amended for this purpose) which transported Romanian citizens towards Greece.
Thus, on 15th of May 2011, a 43 years old Romanian citizen, Dumitru O. came to Giurgiu Land Border Crossing Point, in order to enter Romania. He was the driver of a passengers’ bus, with 51 Romanian citizens on board, arriving from Greece.
Following the specific border control on people and means of transportation, inside the trailer, in an amended place isolated with polystyrene, were detected 5,490 packages of unstamped cigarettes, several brands.
On the occasion of the investigations, the bus driver stated that he took the trailer, which belonged to a carrier, from Greece in order to carry passengers to Bucharest, without knowing about the hidden cigarettes.
The whole amount of cigarettes was asset by the custom authorities and the bus was held on the premises of Giurgiu County Border Police Inspectorate.
However, the bus driver is being criminal investigated for the offence of smuggling and detaining out of fiscal warehouse excisable goods.

Also the Border police officers within Caras Severin County Border Police Inspectorate detected yesterday, 10th of May 2011, 1,296 packages of cigarettes smuggled, as a result of the specific actions carried out in the competency area.
Thus, around 18.00 hours, in Oravita, Border Police officers carried out signals as stipulated by the Romanian legislation in order to stop a Volkswagen vehicle, registered in Caras Severin County on the suspicion of carrying smuggled cigarettes.
The driver intended to stop, then drove away. As a consequence, the operational team of Border Police officers started the pursuit of the vehicle, using acoustic and lighting signals. After 1 km. the aforementioned car was stopped. Border Police officers found out that the driver was C. Daniel, 39 years old and the passenger was C. Nicoleta, 34 years old, both with the permanent address in Caras Severin County.
Following a thorough check of the vehicle, Border Police officers detected, hidden in the trunk and in a compartment of the engine 1,296 packages of cigarettes, Fast and Marble brand.
The cigarettes, valuing about 7,780 lei, were asset and the vehicle is being held on the premises of Caras Severin County Border Police Inspectorate till the end of the investigations.
However on the name of the aforementioned people were drawn prior acts of criminal investigation in terms of the offense of smuggling at the end being taken the imposed legal measures.
