International network of trafficking in persons and drugs was dismantled in Timisoara

The border policemen from Timis dismantled an international network of trafficking in persons, managing to catch red-handed the members of this network and to rescue two young girls and one man from sexual slavery and labour exploitation.

At the end of last year, based on some information according to which a network of trafficking in persons and drugs acts within Timis County, the border policemen within the Compartment for Fighting against Trafficking in persons and Fighting against Trafficking with Prohibited Substances - Timis County Inspectorate of Border Police, with the support of representatives of the Romanian Intelligence Service in Timis and the Directorate of Border Police in Timisoara, under the direct coordination of D.I.I.C.O.T. Prosecutors - Timis Territorial Bureau, started the specific actions for detecting the members of the network and for establishing the criminal activity.

After the investigations, the border policemen established that the traffickers, who had contacts in the criminal environments, were searching for women and men in order to transport them abroad for sexual and labour exploitation.

Thus, on 09.04.2009, the border policemen, who monitored the criminal activity of the group, established that the traffickers wanted to transport to Germany a quantity of drugs and two young girls for sexual exploitation.

On 10.04.2009 the traffickers took the two girls from a gas station near Cenad Border Crossing Point and after that they went to the border with Hungary.

Twenty minutes later, in Cenad Border Crossing Point on the exit way from Romania, Sergiu H., aged 23 and Hussein J, aged 51, both from Jimbolia, were detained while traveling with a VW vehicle.

Besides the two young girls, the border policemen discovered in the vehicle a man who was going to be subject to labour exploitation in Belgium, as well as approximately 15 grams of hashish and cannabis.

The two men were detained for committing trafficking in persons and trafficking with risk drugs and will be brought before the Judges within Timis Court, with proposal of preventive arrest.

The border policemen are continuing the investigations under the direct surveillance of D.I.I.C.O.T. - Timis Territorial Bureau, for the purpose of documenting the entire criminal activity.
