Following the execution of three search warrants in a case of illegal import of waste, the border guards of the Coast Guard, in cooperation with commissioners of the National Environmental Guard, officers of the Maritime Transport Police Service of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police and inspectors from the General Directorate of Customs, under the coordination of a specialized prosecutor and invested in the case within the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Constanța Court of Appeal, discovered over 600 tons of waste that do not comply with legal provisions for storage, sorting or recycling.
On 28.01.2022, the border guards from the Coast Guard, in cooperation with commissioners from the National Environmental Guard, police officers from the Maritime Transport Police Service of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police and inspectors from the General Directorate of Customs, under The coordination of the specialized and prosecuted case prosecutor in the case within the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Constanța Court of Appeal, implemented three house search warrants in Ilfov, Calarași and Teleorman counties.
Following this activity, the team that carried out the searches discovered at a location in Călărași County, 40 bales containing 19,000 kg of textile waste. They were stored unauthorized and come from Italy and were introduced by road in Romania in 2019 by a company declaring the goods as "textile fibers - different colors".
At the workplace of the company in question, in Teleorman County, approximately 600 tons of plastic waste were identified. Of these, about 194 tons were imported, are dirty, will be sorted and washed, which is contrary to environmental legislation. Another 372 tons are purchased from Romania, and 40 tons of waste of various types are unusable in this location.
At the same time, there are suspicions that the company does not comply with the provisions of the environmental permit, far exceeding the maximum annual amount of plastic waste authorized for recycling.
Documents with probative value were also collected in order to continue the investigations, from the headquarters of the company located in Ilfov County.
The activities are ongoing and the action is coordinated by the specialized case prosecutor and invested in the case within the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Constanța Court of Appeal.
