The 74th Management Board Meeting of Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency took place in Bucharest on 27 and 28 March. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the Romanian Border Police, in the context of Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The meeting of Frontex Management Board was attended by Frontex Executive Director, Mr. Fabrice Leggeri, representatives of Member States, and representatives of the management of FRONTEX, EUROPOL, EASO and eu-LISA.
This meeting is the second of a series of five meetings scheduled in 2019 and organized annually by Frontex, the practice being that the Member State holding the rotating presidency of the EU Council is to organize one of these meetings.
During the meeting, members of the Management Board discussed and adopted decisions to ensure the good functioning of the Agency, namely the effective implementation of operational activities coordinated by Frontex to tackle irregular migration and cross-border crime at the EU's external borders.
During the two-day long meeting, multiple debate sessions took place, including the adoption of a European technical and operational integrated border management strategy, to be followed by the adoption of national border management strategies in each Member State.
Also, concrete solutions have been identified that meet the objectives of all Member States related to the enhancement of EU external borders security and the cooperation in return matters and take into account their different contributions to EU joint efforts (participation in the activities of the European agencies FRONTEX, EUROPOL and the European Asylum Support Office, support for EU external actions in the field of migration and information on the progress in the process of amending the Regulation on the European Border and Coast Guard).
