Boat with 31 migrants from Middle East on board, intercepted near the Black Sea littoral

Border police within the Coast Guard have intercepted a boat suspect of illegal migration with 31 migrants from Middle East, in the nearby area of the Black Sea coast, 15 sea miles abreast of 2 Mai locality.

On 11.09.2013, around 02.00 a.m., border police within the Complex System of Observance, Surveillance and Control of the Black Sea Traffic - SCOMAR, in cooperation with officers from the General Inspectorate for Immigration, identified a suspect boat in the Black Sea, 15 sea miles abreast of 2 Mai locality.

Immediately, an emergency mission was launched in the indicated area with a ship of Constanta Naval Group.

The Border Police ship intercepted the target which turned out to be a small size wooden boat, flying a Turkish flag.

Because on board there were many persons wearing life vests and who asked for help, intending to jump into the water, the commander of the Border Police ship made the decision to conduct a sea rescue action.

Following the rescue action, in about 40 minutes, the persons in danger were transferred on board of the BP ship where they received first aid and assistance in safe conditions both for the migrants and for the crew.

The boat was escorted in the area of the harbour basin of Mangalia Naval Group for being subject to the specific control.

The investigations lead to the conclusion that there were 31 persons, out of which 10 men, 7 women and 14 children on board.

Border police are currently conducting investigations for committing the crime of entering the country by illegal state border crossing, deed which is foreseen and sanctioned by Article 70, par. 1 of Governement Emergency Ordinance 105/2001, following that in the end the legal measures will be adopted.
