Between 16.04-11.08.2021, the maritime patrol and surveillance ship MAI 1101 of the Coast Guard participated in the rapid border intervention operation "THEMIS 2021", organized under the auspices of FRONTEX (European Agency for Border Police and Coast Guard).
The operation took place in the operational area of Calabria-Crotone, Italy, and the two crews, rotating aboard the Romanian Border Police ship, carried out patrol, surveillance, search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean, along with other EU member states. participants in the mission.
During the operation, the Romanian border police performed 80 missions, during which time the Coast Guard ship carried out over 1,000 patrol hours.
A special mission attended by border guards took place in May, when they intervened with another boat of the Italian Coast Guard, to rescue a number of 223 people, who were transported from Libya with a fishing boat. 110 people were transhipped on the deck of our ship, who were given emergency medical care as well as food and water, until they were taken over by the Italian authorities.
