20 migrants hidden inside a pallet-laden pickup truck at Nădlac I Border Crossing Point


Border police officers within Nădlac I Border Crossing Point have discovered , hidden inside a pallet-laden pickup truck, twenty citizens from Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and India, who were trying to illegally leave the country.

On 25th October 2019, at around 10.10 pm, at the Border Crossing Point Nădlac I - Nagylak, Arad County, a Romanian citizen presented himself to exit the country, driving a Renault Master utility vehicle, registered in Romania. According to the accompanying documents, he was transporting pallets from Romania to Austria.

Based on the risk profile, the border police officers proceeded to a thorough control of the vehicle. Thus, inside it, twenty persons were discovered hidden in 6 boxes of plywood.

At the time of the checks, border guards established that the people concerned were citizens of Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and India, 12 men, 3 women and 5 children, all adults aged between 18 and 39, and minors, between 15 and 17 years old. During the investigations, border guards determined that the persons intended to reach western European states.

Border policemen carry out investigations in terms of committing human trafficking and smuggling of migrants for the driver and attempting to illegally cross the state border for the foreign nationals. Upon the completion of the investigations, the legal measures will be undertaken.
