The border police officers from the Bechet Border Crossing Point - Dolj county discovered, in a truck loaded with sunflower seeds, several boxes of medicines containing 1,186,785 tablets with the active substance alprazolam, which is found on the list of dangerous drugs.
The truck was driven by a Bulgarian citizen, and the investigations in question are being continued by the prosecutors of DIICOT - Territorial Service Craiova, with the man under preventive arrest for 30 days under the aspect of committing the crime of high-risk drug trafficking.
This is the largest seizure of drugs containing an active substance in the category of high-risk drugs, the market value being estimated at over 3 million euros.
On 27.08.2023, around 06.50, at the Bechet Border Crossing Point - Dolj county, a Bulgarian citizen, aged 52, presented himself at the wheel of a truck to enter the country. According to the accompanying documents, the driver was transporting sunflower seeds and hydraulic cylinders and was destined for Sweden.
Acting on the basis of the risk analysis, the border police carried out the physical control of the road complex. Thus, in the cargo compartment of the means of transport, in addition to the transported goods, several boxes of medicines were discovered. After a thorough check, it was established that the respective packages contained 79,119 blisters with 1,186,785 tablets, which had as active substance Alprazolam, a substance found in Table No. 3 of Law 143/2000 on the prevention and combating of illicit drug trafficking and consumption.
The entire quantity of drugs was sent for expertise to the specialized laboratory, the result being positive.
In the case, the investigations are being continued by the prosecutors of DIICOT - Territorial Service Craiova, under the aspect of committing the crime of introducing or removing from the country, as well as the import or export of dangerous drugs, without a right, upon completion, the necessary legal measures will be taken.
At the same time, the road assembly was unavailable at the BCP Bechet headquarters, and the Bulgarian citizen was detained for 24 hours, and later he was presented to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest, being issued a warrant for 30 days.
