Increased traffic at the border during the Easter holiday

In the period 02 - 05.04.2010, more than 375,000 persons, out of which 226,800 were Romanian citizens (more than 60% of the total of passengers) and more than 84,800 means of transport crossed the borders - both on the entry way in the country and on the exit one.

The most transited Border Crossing Points were the borders in the West and South of the country - the border with Hungary was transited by 160,797 persons and the border with Bulgaria was transited by 43,539 persons.

Realizing a comparison between the four days it may be concluded that the lowest traffic was recorded in the first day of Easter (04.04), when approximately 48,000 person crossings were realized and the highest traffic was recorded on Friday, 02.04 - more than 144,000.

During the Easter holiday of 2009 (17 - 20.04.2009), at the Romanian border were recorded more than 364,000 persons and 117,380 transport means.

In order to avoid overcrowding and to carry out an operational and fluent check, the Romanian Border Police undertook measures to supplement the number of personnel carrying out activities in the Border Crossing Points and also, according to the situation, the number of check lanes both on the entry way in the country and on the exit one was increased. Thus, in this period, approximately 2,200 border policemen carried out daily state border check and surveillance.

From the point of view of the operational situation, during 02 - 05.04.2010, the border policemen detected 117 illegal acts - 42 crimes and 75 contraventions and also, they did not allow the entry / exit in / from the country of 51 foreign citizens for various reasons.

At the same time, smuggling goods amounting to 621,000 lei were detained in order to confiscate - independently or in collaboration with the Customs employees.
