Border police officers within Giurgiu Border Crossing Point have discovered in a minibus, registered in Serbia, the total amount of 750 kilograms of plant substance, which could be cannabis.
On 06 October 2019, around 00.30, at Giurgiu Border Crossing Point, a 32-year-old Serbian citizen presented himself to enter the country, driving a minibus registred in Serbia.
Based on the risk profile, the border police officers proceeded to a specific control of the vehicle and discovered inside several white raffia bags. Inside each bag were found several packages packed in tin foil, which weighed in total about 750 kg and which contained a dark green vegetable substance, supposed to be cannabis.
The entire amount of plant substance was collected by Organized Crime Fighting Service officers and sent for expertise to the Laboratory of Analysis and Drugs Profile within the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police, where it reacted as cannabis.
In this case, the investigations are continued by prosecutors within the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (D.I.I.C.O.T. ) - Giurgiu Territorial Office together with Organized Crime Fighting Service Giurgiu, in the aspect of committing high risk drug trafficking .
Upon the completion of the investigations, the legal measures will be undertaken.
If they were traded on the black market, the drugs would be worth about 9,000,000 euros.
