The border policemen are preparing for the
inflow of travelers in the border crossing points due to the
upcoming Easter holiday.
The most transited border points will be the ones at the border
with Hungary and Bulgaria, for which, at the level of the Romanian
Border Police, a series of measures meant to improve the traffic
flow and to reduce the waiting time were adopted.
Daily, during this period, approximately 3.500 border policemen
will carry out surveillance and check at the state border, and more
than 200 officers will be involved in check, support and guidance
activities.
During the last year’s Easter holiday, approximately 7.000
persons transiting the Romanian border were registered.
The upcoming of the Easter holiday will bring back most of the Romanian citizens established legally abroad intending to spend these days together with the family and relatives, but also foreign citizens wishing to spend a few days in Romania.
As a result, in the border crossing points, especially the ones at the Romanian-Hungarian border, an increase of the traffic of persons and means of transportation will be registered.
In order to avoid people crowding and to realize an operative and fluent check, the Romanian Border Police will take the necessary measures in order to supplement the number of staff carrying out activities in the border crossing points and, also, according to the situation, the number of check arteries will be increased both on the entry and exit way in / out of the country.
At the same time, measures will be adopted in the view of an efficient management of the operational situation, namely for preventing and countering illegal cross-border actions.
During the next period, approximately 3.500 border policemen will carry out the surveillance and check at the state border daily and more than 200 officers will be involved in check, support and guidance actions in order to ensure the observance of the specific working conditions at the level of the subordinated structures.
During last year’s Easter holiday (24.04 - 30.04.2008), at the Romanian border, over 730.000 persons’ crossings were registered, out of which approximately 430.000 were Romanian citizens and 300.000 foreign citizens; the most transited border crossing points were those in the Western and Southern part of the country.
Measures:
The Romanian Border Police leading staff took measures in order to ensure an efficient and fluent border check, consisting of:
carrying out an operative and civilized check, and to this effect, measures to supplement the personnel responsible with documents check were adopted; increasing the number of check arteries in the border crossing points on the entry and exit way in / out of the country; establishing a staff reserve, both at the Headquarters of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police and within the territorial structures, made up of specialized officers ready to act when necessary; ensuring an enhanced surveillance at the state border by applying the legal measures aimed to prevent and counter cross-border crimes; deployment of officers within the General Inspectorate of Border Police with coordination and operational role, in the main border crossing points, for traffic monitoring, as well as for guiding and supporting the colleagues who carry out the border check activity; maintaining all communication and information means in an operational state, training of subordinated personnel for ensuring rapid intervention in the competence area for solving special situations and for traffic flow improvement at the level of Romanian Border Police structures; enhancement of co-working and collaboration relations with the other structures of Ministry of Administration and Interior, with the border authorities of the neighbouring states, as well as with the local public administration;Recommendations:
In order to avoid crowding which may occur due to excessive transit demands in the main border crossing points at the border with Bulgaria and Hungary, the Romanian Border Police recommends all participants in traffic to transit all common border crossing points existent at the border, as follows:

Varsand - Gyula; within the radius of Bihor county: B.C.P. Salonta - Mehkerek; B.C.P. Bors - Artand; B.C.P. Valea lui Mihai - Nyirabrany; B.C.P. Sacuieni - Letavertes; within the radius of Satu Mare county: B.C.P. Urziceni - Vallaj; B.C.P. Petea - Csengersima; on the Romanian-Bulgarian Border: within the radius of Giurgiu county: B.C.P. Giurgiu - diagonal check; within the radius of Constanta county: B.C.P. Vama Veche - on the Romanian territory; B.C.P. Ostrov - Silistra - on the Bulgarian territory; B.C.P. Negru Voda - Kardam - on the Bulgarian territory; within the radius of Dolj county: B.C.P. Bechet - on the Romanian territory; B.C.P. Calafat - on the Romanian territory.We recall all participants in cross-border traffic that if they are dissatisfied with the way in which the check upon border crossing was carried out, they may call the telephone (prefix).959 at territorial level and 021.9590 for Bucharest, where the reported aspects will be taken over by border policemen who will handle them according to the law, on a case-by-case basis.
