A Turkish Coast Guard delegation came to visit Romanian Border Police

From 11th to 14th of May 2011, a Turkish Coast Guard delegation, leaded by the head of the institution, Mr. Izzet ARTUNÇ, visited Romanian Border Police, in order to discuss the participation in the field of activity of Romanian - Turkish Joint Commission.

The visit is part of the reunion of the Romanian Border Police - Turkish Coast Guard Joint Commission, for the year 2011. The activity has a bilateral character, the next meeting being established to take part on Turkish territory.

The purpose of the visit was the development of the existing cooperation between the two border authorities and also the debate of some interest aspects regarding risk analysis and countering illegal activities at the Black Sea.

During the activity an analysis of the activities of the year 2011 was done based on Romanian - Turkish Implementation Plan and some aspects regarding the Romanian - Turkish cooperation in the field of border security during 2011 - 2012 were approached. Also the Romanian representatives held a presentation on "The Integrated Management of State Border in the Context of Romania’s Accession to European Union: Past, Present, and Future".

On 12.05.2011, Turkish delegation accompanied by a Romanian Border Police delegation went to Constanta and Tulcea in order to see the Integrated Complex System for Observing, Surveillance and Control of the Traffic at the Black Sea (SCOMAR).

On this occasion were presented the activities carried out by Romanian Border Police officers within the competency area of Constanta and Tulcea Border Police County Inspectorates, the equipment of the institution regarding the naval mobility and the actions taken in order to secure the sea borders. The two delegations established the ways of cooperation regarding the fight against illegal migration and cross border criminality.

The meeting is a proof of the willingness of two parties involved in these activities regarding the continuation and intensification of the cooperation between Romanian and Turkish border authorities and also of acting on preventing and countering the criminality at the Black Sea in the context of Romanian’s accession to Schengen area and Turkey’s accession to European Union.
