Seven citizens of Syria, Yemen and Egypt have illegally crossed the border over the Danube river, by boat


Border police officers from the Moldova Veche Border Police Sector - Caraş-Severin County discovered seven citizens from Syria, Yemen and Egypt, who were planning to enter Romania illegally, crossing the Danube river by boat. Border police officers from the Oraviţa Border Police Sector also discovered a Turkish citizen, who tried to fraudulently cross the border from Serbia to Romania.

On 07.02.2020, around 02.30 am, border guards from the Border Police Sector Moldova Veche observed, with the help of night vision equipment, coming from the Serbian shore, a boat that entered the Romanian territorial waters,after which imediately returned.

The border police initiated a specific action on the line of combating illegal migration and cross-border crime in the area of competence, after which they detected and detained, on the Romanian shore of the Danube river, near the town of Coronini, seven foreign citizens.

At the same time, the Serbian border authorities were notified about the event and reported that they had identified the boat and detained two men, a Syrian and a Palestinian citizen.

The seven foreign nationals were taken to the sector headquarters for identification, on which occasion it was established that the group consisted of three citizens from Syria, two from Yemen and two from Egypt and they were between 16 and 45 years old. During the preliminary investigations, the people stated that they had crossed the Danube river by boat, helped by the two persons detained by the Serbian authorities and they were planning to reach Germany.The border guards carry out investigations in terms of committing the crime of fraudulent crossing of the state border , and the legal measures will be taken at the end.The workers from the Oraviţa Border Police Sector also detected, following an action taken in the line of combating illegal migration, in the town of Ciudanoviţa, Caraş Severin county, a Turkish citizen, who tried to illegally cross the border in order to reach a Western European state, because it did not hold valid documents.In this case, criminal work was carried out under the aspect of committing the crime of fraudulent crossing of the state border, the person concerned being handed over to the authorities of Serbia through the Moravita Border Crossing Point. At the same time, he Turkish citizen was not allowed to enter the territory of our state for a period of 5 years.
