Results recorded at the border in the last 24 hours

On 09.01.2025, the border guards at the external border of our country (the border with Serbia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, but also the sea and air flights arriving from outside the Schengen area) carried out the border crossing formalities (both on the entry and exit direction) for about 65,000 people, Romanian and foreign citizens and over 13,900 means of transport that transited the border.

On the entry way into Romania, the entry formalities were carried out for 33,989 persons and 7,326 means of transport.

As far as Ukrainian citizens are concerned, our workers carry out the border control formalities for them, in accordance with the national and Community regulations in the field, starting with 10.02.2022. 10,971,229 Ukrainian citizens entered Romania until 09.01.2025, at national level.

We also support citizens who want to travel outside the country with information on waiting time at the external border crossing points, open to international traffic, information that can be found on the Online Traffic application, which can be accessed at  http://www.politiadefrontiera.ro/traficonline/.

Starting with  January 1st, 2025, at the internal border of Romania, respectively at the border with Hungary and Bulgaria, the border control was abolished, meaning that all persons can move to or from other Member States of the Schengen Area (except Cyprus and Ireland) without stopping at the control booths of the Border Police for the verification of travel documents.

However, Romanian border guards may carry out random and unsystematic checks on the communication routes at the internal border or at various road nodes, within the 30 km from the border line inside, which is the area of competence, together with colleagues from the Police, Gendarmerie, Immigration or other structures to verify the identity and legal situation of persons, but also to prevent and combat illegal acts.

In order to carry out these checks, our workers have mobile terminals connected to the relevant databases of the Romanian authorities, but also to those in the Schengen Area, performing, in the last 24 hours, over 8,300 checks in the eDAC application.

In situations where there have been deviations from the legal norms, in the last 24 hours, in the areas of competence - the crossing points, but also at the "green border" - the border guards found 49 illegal acts (21 crimes and 28 contraventions) by which the Romanian legislation was violated. Following the finding of the illegal acts by the border guards, fines amounting to Ron 16,450 were imposed and goods amounting to approximately Ron 257,700 were seized for confiscation, which were stopped from marketing, in order to protect consumers.

Also, 47 foreign citizens were not allowed to enter the country, who did not meet the conditions provided by law.

The Romanian Border Police undertakes daily, together with the other competent institutions, firm measures in all areas of competence, in order to detect and sanction persons who do not comply with the law. We are always on duty to facilitate border crossings for road users and to provide support to citizens in any situation.
