Cooperation between the Romanian Border Police and the Hungarian National Police

In order to prevent and combat the migration phenomenon, the Romanian Border Police undertakes the necessary measures to organize and carry out an effective control of the persons located/detected in the areas of competence: at the crossing points - on entry or exit of the country, at the "green" border and in the 30 km from the border to the interior of the country.

At the level of the Territorial Inspectorate of the Oradea Border Police, several measures were ordered to manage the operational situation in the area of competence. For example, on the border with Hungary, in order to prevent and combat illegal migration, within the framework of specific cooperation, permanent contact was maintained with the Hungarian authorities, urgently informing them in situations of illegal border crossing, in order to arrange the necessary measures, conducting joint research and rapid information sharing.

Today, September 19, 2022, at the Nădlac Border Crossing Point (Arad county), there was a meeting of the Chief Inspector of the Oradea Border Police, Mr. Police Quaestor Bondar Marin, with Head of the Hungarian Police, Csongrad-Csanad , Brigadier General Dr. Polyak Zsolt.

The main point of the meeting consisted in analyzing the operative situation at the common border and identifying some solutions and carrying out some concrete activities to make the cooperation between the Romanian Border Police and the Hungarian National Police more efficient.

The border with Hungary is an internal border of the European Union, and through the establishment of common border crossing points, border control is carried out jointly with the Hungarian authorities.

Actions in an integrated system have been ordered and are being carried out at this moment, together with the authorities of the neighboring country, on the entire border with Hungary, respectively on the Arad, Bihor and Satu Mare counties, where the intervention devices will be engaged, progressively, depending on the dynamics of the operational situation recorded, in different areas within the jurisdiction of the Border Police.

In support of these activities, at the border crossing points, along with the border police officers who carry out the control formalities and verify the authenticity of the travel documents and means of transport, the canine teams of the Border Police also participate. They are made up of border policemen and service dogs and are permanently present at border surveillance and control missions.

A statistical situation regarding the number of migrants detected crossing/attempting to cross the state border illegally shows us that migratory pressure is at a high level. For example, in 2021, at the level of the Territorial Inspectorate of the Oradea Border Police, more than 9,600 people were detected while trying to illegally cross the border into Hungary, of which more than 85% were at the level of Border Crossing Points on area of Arad county, and in the first 8 months of this year, over 4,000 foreign citizens were detected, of which almost 90% were in Arad county.
