Distinction offered by the Slovenian Ministry of Internal Affairs to the Romanian border policemen who helped the Slovenian policemen to combat illegal migration

On 06.10.2022, at the Embassy of Slovenia in Bucharest, the ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Her Excellency Mrs. Lea Stančič, awarded the "Silver Order" distinction for exceptional works and services rendered in the security, defense and protection of the Republic of Slovenia and for international cooperation. The distinction was received by the head of the Romanian Border Police, Chief Police Commissioner Victor Ștefan Ivașcu, on behalf of the Romanian border policemen who participated in the year 2021, to a joint operation to combat illegal migration, together with the Slovenian police, on the border between Slovenia and Croatia. The head of the contingent, chief police commissioner Enachi Leontin, from the Territorial Inspectorate of the Iași Border Police, also took part in the activity.

Based on the request of the Slovenian authorities and the Joint Agreement concluded between the authorities of the Romanian Border Police and the Slovenian Police regarding the establishment of joint patrols and other forms of joint action for the management of illegal migration at the state border between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia, the Romanian Border Police expressed his willingness to support the Slovenian authorities.

Thus, in the second part of 2021, 24 Romanian border policemen who were part of the operational structures of the R.B.P, equipped with individual equipment and 7 special vehicles, were deployed in order to participate in a joint operation, together with Slovenian policemen.

The duties and responsibilities of the Romanian border police were concentrated at the Slovenian-Croatian border, for carrying out specific actions on the line of illegal migration.

During the operative mission, the members of the contingent exchanged data and information with the police of the host state regarding illegal migration and other related crimes, as well as with the representatives of the other member states participating in this joint operation.

The collaboration represented the essential element regarding the participation of the Romanian border police in this type of actions, not only with the Slovenian authorities, but also with the other contingents deployed from other states in the European Union.
